Apply for Housing

The Application Process

There are two ways to get an application either click the “Application Link” or pick up an application at Crockett Housing Authority. The application will need to be completed, signed, dated, and turned into CHA with all documents required below.

  1. List the Head of Household’s name, current address, and a phone number
  2. List a contact person’s name current address, and a phone number
  3. Head of Household’s Race needs to be chosen
  4. Head of Household’s Ethnicity needs to be chosen
  5. List names of all persons who will be living in the unit, relationship to the family head, sex, social security number, elderly/disabled, date of birth and place of birth
  6. Names and addresses of your current and previous landlords for information about your family’s suitability as a tenant
  7. List all types of income household receives, how much and how often
  8. List names and addresses of employers, banks, and any other information that CHA would need to verify your income and deductions and to verify the family composition

Required Documentation

  1. Original Social Security Cards for all household members
  2. Original Birth Certificates for all household members
  3. Original Driver’s License and/or Photo ID

Required Income Verification

  1. Wages - 4-6 consecutive paychecks
  2. Social Security award letter
  3. SSI award letter
  4. VA award letter
  5. Child Support
  6. Unemployment verification
  7. Zero Income/Family Support (CHA Form completed)
  8. TANF award letter
  9. Food Stamps award letter

Eligibility Notification

CHA will enter your application into the Housing system which will put your name on a waiting list. Once your name is reached on the waiting list, CHA will contact you. If it is determined that you are ineligible, CHA will send you a denial letter. The denial letter will state why and, if you wish, you can request an informal hearing.

Signing the Lease

If you are offered an apartment and accept it, you will have to sign a lease with CHA. You will be required to pay a Security Deposit, Prorated Rent and possibly a 20% down payment of prior Debt Owed. The Lease will be explained to you, so that you will have a better understanding of your responsibilities as a tenant and CHA’s responsibility as a landlord.

Selection Preference

Some HA’s have selection preferences and Crockett Housing Authority has 3 preferences as follows:

  1. Homeless Veterans
  2. Homeless due to natural disasters
  3. VAWA
